Owens gaining weight

Owen had his weigh in today. He's over 23 lbs and officially back on the percentile charts. It may sound like a small thing to most, but it's huge to us. Getting Owen up the weight charts has been something we've struggled to do since he was born. He's only actually been in the percentile range at a few weigh-ins. He's usually off the chart. He stopped throwing up a few weeks ago. That's good. Puking up several meals a week certainly didn't help him gain weight.

We feel lucky. Friends of ours that we met in the hospital have a little boy, Jesse, that weighs about the same as Owen. I think he is 13 months older then O. His poor parents work so hard to put weight on him. He has a little port hole in his side where a feeding tube is permanently hooked up. I remember when they got the tube hooked up they were so excited because they were going to be able to travel.

Speaking of hospital friends, Barb recently ran into the mother of a small boy we had met at Sick Kids. Zack was in the step down ward at the same time as O (Oct 7,8,9 ish). We made there acquaintance partially thanks to George and Bruce. At different times during our stay, George and Bruce had both come to see Owen and they both said hello to this boy in Arabic. Two white guys saying hello in Arabic. That definitely broke the ice.

Zack was a real inspiration for us. Owen wasn't doing very well at that time, Zack had just had his 4th heart surgery. A heart valve replacement and they couldn't keep him in bed. He wanted to get up and run around. : ) His mom says he's doing really well. Barb and I were thrilled hear that news.

Its still a big deal for us. Anything that reminds us of that time shakes us up a bit. Its good for us to talk about it so I hope you don't mind reading it. Barb says its therapy for our post traumatic stress syndrome. Shes probably right.
